Artist Statement
I wasn't discovered by art until my mid forties. Fabric art saved
my sanity when I was unable to sleep because of a ruptured disc in
my back. I had to wait three months to get an appointment for surgery.
On a good night I got a couple of hours of restless sleep. In an effort
to get a mental break from the pain and exhaustion, I began to quilt
and play with fabric during the night. Somewhere along the way, I
fell in love - with fabric and the creative process.
I have been pursuing my art (and it me) for about five years. I
had to unlearn all of the "rules" I was taught growing
up. Now, I nurture my love of color and put together whatever my
inner voice is drawn to put together. I don't worry about opposites
and complements. It is a pure creative process. I don't plan, I
go into my studio and wait to see what happens. My studio is sacred
space and magical things happen there. I put together fabric of
many colors - the brighter the better - add some baubles and beads,
couch in some thread and yarn and then watch to see what appears.
